Establishing Peacepainting Iran

The Peacepainting representatives Ali Badri from Iran, and Laila Koloastyak from Norway created a team of artists and completed the first project in Peacepainting Iran.

In total a team of 35 Peacepainting volunteers worked intensely, professionally and dedicatedly for one month to establish Peacepainting Iran. To realize the project, the team traveled to Iran and held training courses with new, local Peacepainting instructors and conducted several Peacepainting workshops with local Iranian children in the city of Ahvaz, Iran.
The project was anchored at the Iranian level by the government, by

- Director of the Ershad Guidence Khuzestan Administration, Amanie Felistin Ave
- Khuzestan Governor, Dr Golamreza Shariaati.
6 trainees completed the Peacepainting Instructor course and are now the backbone of all Peacepainting activities happening in Iran.
During the establishment of Peacepainting Iran, in total 60 Iranian children participated in the workshops, which lasted several days.
The children all came from the city of Ahvaz, Iran. We made sure that Arab and Persian children were having workshops together - which contributes to a natural integration.

At the end of the workshops, there were 60 framed paintings and (3 from Norway, 57 from Iran) exhibited at the workshop venue.
This same exhibition is now traveling around the province of Khuzestan, which is located in the heart of the Persian Gulf and borders Iraq and the historic ancient cultural area by the Euphrates and Tigris.
All in all, we have managed to do a comprehensive project that was noticed in Iran using very little money in the form of money. It was done out of idealism and a real willingness to go in a different direction: "Let us illuminate injustice and create a door for it".
We are now planning to apply to the Nordic Council for funding for a cooperation between Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iran.
